YpsiWrites' theme this year is "Write for Change." Given this theme, what type of change do you think your writing inspires and what are your reasons for doing this writing?

I hope that my writing, which often deals with themes of addictions, invisible disability, poverty, racism, sexism, and maybe most importantly, shame, can help other people who may be feeling ashamed for whatever reason to feel less alone, to feel seen, and to feel invited to share their own story.

What do you like about writing or why do you yourself like to write?

My favorite thing about writing is getting to hone my voice and understand my place in the world better. Besides that, I simply think language is magical on a visual and auditory level. It also allows me to connect with my ancestors, create culture, and meditate on the stories that make up our histories and beliefs.
