Stories of Home: What Makes Your Neighborhood Great?

What makes your neighborhood feel like home? What about your community? Join this interactive workshop to reflect on and celebrate the special places that shape our lives. Through guided prompts, we’ll write together and share descriptions, stories, and poems that highlight the strengths of our communities.

September 20, 2025, 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. via Zoom

Historical Poetry: Writing About Our Shared Past

Our very own Ypsilanti, Michigan, has an incredibly rich history, including stops on the Underground Railroad, Indigenous trading posts, and a well-known water tower. Join YpsiWrites’ Writer in Residence, Angelica Esquivel, to learn more about Ypsilanti’s history and then craft an original poem inspired by a historical event or figure. This workshop is part of Angelica’s “Envisioning Ypsi: Histories and Futures” residency program, and poems created at this event are invited to be submitted to the anthology Angelica is developing during her residency.

We will be hosting a writing sprint with write-in sessions every Saturday for those working on any piece of writing. These sessions, open to all writers, are a time to write and feel supported by others. Writers can come to any session for as long as they’d like: The sessions will mainly serve as dedicated writing time for participants. No registration needed.
