Girl Scouts Book Clubs
Right Now, Our Stories Book Guides are perfect for book clubs, teachers, parents, students, and anyone else who loves getting more out of their reading experience! Our discussion guides will help readers dive deeper into their books, give context for their creation, and provide questions and activities to connect with the text.
These guides are meant to be experienced after reading some of our favorite books. They contain everything from fun facts and resources, to hands-on activities and discussion questions! They can be viewed digitally or printed for hand-outs. For classrooms or book clubs, teachers or leaders should read through both the book of choice and the corresponding reading guide. Then craft a reading discussion based on their group's learning style and preferences. If you have a group that responds best to hand on learning, try one of the suggested activities and collect materials before your meeting.
These guides were made in collaboration with YPSIWrites and Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan. During the pandemic, it became clear that connection was an increasingly important resource. And as anyone who's read a great book can tell you, reading is one of the best ways to foster connection, across space and even time. This project was led by local girl scout Maxine (Fritch?), as a part of her Gold Award Project, the highest honor for a Girl Scout. (More credits?)
These guides are for everyone! They're sorted by different grade levels, to account for themes and reading difficulty, but those are suggestions, not rules. For example, a chapter book with illustrations throughout but some scary scenes may be recommended for 2nd graders, however a particularly halloween loving 1st grader could also enjoy it.
