Cam/they

Primary Genres: poetry, fiction, essays, stories, zines, lists, sounds, dreams, interviews

Which is genre your favorite and why?

I’ve been writing poetry, fiction, essays, stories, zines, lists, sounds, dreams, interviews for as long as I can remember. I think of it all as poetry (or sometimes prosetry!) This is because my relationship to poetry and my definition of poetry has shifted and expanded as I’ve grown older.

What might you like people to know about you as a writer?

I am a poet and prose writer, with a focus on ecology, queerness, the body, language, the surreal, and liberatory futures. My writing aligns with my activism and my dedication to community building, collective care, and mutual aid. I crave collaboration and gatherings of people; it’s what fuels me daily.

My community art project is PoetTreeTown, which I started in 2023 and is now in its 5th year. PoetTreeTown is a grassroots community project dedicated to publishing and promoting local Washtenaw poets in public spaces around Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, and fostering a vibrant and supportive literary community all year long in Washtenaw County. Since our inception, we've hosted over 550 original poems on store windowfronts.
