What do you like about writing?

Historically, writing has captured the world in all of its complexity, the positive, the difficult, and everything in between. What I love most about writing is its ability to capture us in a particular moment, almost like a timestamp. Whether it is a grant proposal, a poem, or a personal reflection, our writing reveals something about where we were, what we were thinking, and what mattered to us at that time.

What part of the writing process do you enjoy the most and why?

I enjoy the beginning of the writing process the most—the moment when an idea is still messy, exciting, and full of possibilities. I love taking something that has been sitting in my head and beginning to give it shape on paper. There is a certain freedom in that stage because I am not yet worried about whether every sentence is perfect; I am simply trying to capture the thought before it disappears. Ironically, that freedom is also where my biggest challenge lives. I often have more ideas than I know what to do with, so organizing them into a clear direction can be difficult. I am learning in this stage of my life and writing journey, that messy ideas are great ideas and organizing is done in a fashion that works for me in that moment.
