YpsiWrites: A Public Art and Writing Tour

How might art inspire writing? And how might writing help us see art in news ways? YpsiWrites invites you to explore Downtown Ypsilanti, Eastern Michigan University’s Campus, and Depot Town to view specific pieces of art. Then take some time to think and write responses to the provided prompts.

Mystery Maker Challenge

Look at Ypsilanti through a new lens by choosing one of our four prompts to write your own mystery. Write your own Ypsilanti-based mystery with our historic, museum, outdoors, or spooky writing prompts. We even have a kids version and a reading list!

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration - Notable Scholarship Submissions

As part of its annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration, Eastern Michigan University awards scholarships to students who uphold and embody Dr. King's beliefs. This year, students competed by writing a piece consistent with this year's theme--We the People: No Justice, No Peace. Submissions, which could be written or oral, demonstrated the students' commitment to promoting respect and to improving quality of life for all people in ways consistent with the ideals of Dr. King.

We are delighted to share some of the strong and thoughtful pieces created by this year's finalists.
